Contractors and Other Visitors

Policy

We are committed, through our health and safety policies, to provide a safe and healthy environment for patients, staff, visitors, and contractors.

When visitors or contractors are on site they must:

• be advised of the emergency procedures, location of emergency equipment, location and use of safety equipment, safety rules, no-go areas, and any identified hazard or potential hazard.
• show proof of ID to the practice manager, delegated person or other staff on request.
• sign in and out as they enter and leave the premises, in accordance with fire safety standards.
• notify the practice manager or delegated person immediately if an accident occurs or if they notice a hazard while on site.

Contractors working on site

When a contractor works at Test Medical Centre Foundation, both parties share responsibility (as PCBUs) for health and safety. So far as reasonably practicable, we consult, cooperate with, and coordinate activities with the contractor, as outlined below.

It is the practice's responsibility to take reasonable practicable steps to ensure contractors' safety during their contracted work. The practice manager or delegated person should meet any contractor before the work is started, and brief them on relevant health and safety information, including:

• hazards that exist where they are working
• the practice's policies on health and safety
• emergency procedures and first aid facilities
• procedures for reporting any new hazards that are identified.

Contractors are responsible for complying with health and safety legislation, and for recording and reporting any accidents that harm themselves or any other person.

Contractors must have their own compliant health and safety system in place (and provide evidence if asked).

Before contractors start work at the practice

Contractors should plan work activities and inform us:

• of any hazards that arise from the work they are doing
• of safety procedures for other people who may be affected by that work, including the public
• of safety equipment that may be necessary
• if the work they are doing is notifiable, and confirmation that they have notified WorkSafe | Mahi Haumaru Aotearoa.

Important! You should suspend work at any point if you aren't satisfied the contractor is taking the necessary health and safety measures.
