Elected Health and Safety Representative
We have an elected health and safety representative (HSR). Their main responsibility is to represent staff on health and safety matters. This involves:
- supporting worker engagement and participation in health and safety
- raising and investigating concerns and complaints
- making recommendations to the practice
- monitoring health and safety measures taken by the practice and giving feedback about compliance and hazards
- looking after the interests of staff who have been harmed at work.
The practice allows the HSR:
- paid leave for training – usually up to two days per year
- paid training fees, and any reasonable associated costs
- time and resources to fulfil their role.
A trained HSR has power under the Act to direct workers to cease work, and to issue provisional improvement notices, in certain conditions.
Our elected health and safety representative is the practice nurse.
